OVERVIEW
The ICA&CA, in collaboration with Period Style Homes, Inc. and the American
Institute of Building Design will be offering the third installment in its
seminar series on regional “House Styles” on the weekend of November 2 –
Nov. 4th in Santa Barbara, California. The weekend’s offering will
commence with a series of lectures and studio seminars by ICA&CA affiliated
practioners and experts in the fields of classical architecture and related
vernacular styles. Seminar lectures will provide participants with a basic
understanding of classical architecture and an overview of local styles.
Students will receive course study materials that provide information on
classical design principles and the regional styles being considered. Follow-up
guided tours of historic and modern sites will provide participants with
opportunities to observe how the elements and principles of classical
architecture evolved and informed the development of unique regional styles. By
studying a selection of both old and new regional style houses along with
complementary instruction in general design concepts and history, participants
will learn how to create better designed and detailed houses of beauty and
value.

LEARNING UNITS
All class participants will qualify for AIBD CEU and AIA/CES
Learning units as noted. Additionally, participants receive an ICA & CA
Course Completion Certificate.

THE AMERICAN RIVIERA
Santa Barbara is located about 100 miles almost due west of
Los Angeles, along a stretch of the Pacific coast often referred to as the
"American Riviera" because of its Mediterranean climate. A spectacularly
beautiful area looking south toward the Pacific and the Channel Islands and
having sunrise to sunset views, Santa Barbara became the winter destination for
the titans of post-Civil War America who visited Santa Barbara and chose her
hilltops and beaches to build their palatial estates.
