ENTRIES INVITED FOR 2008 GEORGIAN GROUP ARCHITECTURAL AWARDS SPONSORED BY SAVILLS

Entries are invited for the 2008 Georgian Group Architectural Awards, sponsored by Savills.

These unique awards, now in their sixth year, cover the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and Isle of Man and recognise excellence in the restoration of Georgian buildings. Awards are also given to the best new Classical building and to the best new building in a Georgian setting.

The categories for the 2008 Awards are:

Restoration of a Georgian country house
Restoration of a Georgian building in an urban setting
Reuse of a Georgian building

Restoration of a Georgian Church

Restoration of a Georgian garden or landscape (including garden buildings such as monuments and follies)
New building in the classical tradition
The Giles Worsley award for a new building in a Georgian context

The judges are:

Crispin Holborow Director of Country Property, Savills

Lady Nutting OBE Chairman of the Georgian Group

Dr John Martin Robinson (Chairman of the Judges) Vice-Chairman of the Georgian Group and historic buildings consultant
Professor David Watkin Professor of the History of Architecture at the University of Cambridge

The deadline for entries is Friday 18 July 2008. The Awards will be presented at Christie’s, London SW1 in November 2008.

NOTE TO EDITORS

The Georgian Group, founded in 1937, is the national charity for the protection of Georgian buildings, townscapes, monuments, parks and gardens. It has a statutory role in advising English and Welsh planning authorities on proposals to alter or demolish listed Georgian buildings. It handles around 6000 such applications every year.
