The 36th annual National Organization of Minority Architects International Conference and Expo, October 2 - 4, 2008 in the Capital city of the United States, Washington DC.


The conference location is a premier luxury hotel, Hyatt Regency Washington on Capital Hill, where all seminars, product expo, Bros Arts Ball, keynote luncheon and awards dinner will be held.


The National Building Museum, one of the world’s most prominent venues for informed debate about the built environment and its impact on people’s lives, will co-host a keynote by world reknown David Adjaye, recognized as one of the leading architects of our generation in the United Kingdom.


Distinguished local architect Marshall Purnell, FAIA, NOMAC, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) 84th president, fellow of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) and design principal at Devrouax & Purnell will present his keynote address during the Awards Dinner. Mr. Purnell has been instrumental in the creation of a number of notable landmarks in Washington DC. These days, he is spearheading AIA's goal of promoting sustainable design and resource conservation across the United States.

  • Wednesday, October 1st - Pre-Conference Event: Community Service Day at "Friends of Tyler School"
  • Friday October 3rd - "Shadow an Architect" Program for middle & high school students
  • Saturday, October 4th - Awards dinner including professional and university student competitions

Other conference highlights include a luncheon presentation by Dr. Lonnie G. Bunch III, founding Director of the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture, a Technology Day seminar track providing information on the latest in digital technology for business and design, a Smart Growth seminar track including international expert on urban growth, Javier Velez-Arocho, a Student track along with two Professional tracks and much more….

We look forward to offering architecture students and practitioners as well as urban planners, real estate professionals, landscape architects, historic preservationists, interior designers, industrial designers and other design professionals a platform for presenting research and practice knowledge and exchanging implementation solutions
for varied issues in design and the built environment.
