A Request

I’m in the planning stages of a paper on ornament, and I’m interested to find out if the meanings of various motifs have been catalogued anywhere. For example, what meanings are historically associated with the acorn, palm, honeysuckle, lion, etc.?

I'm aware of George Hersey's The Lost Meaning of Classical Architecture and Kent Bloomer's writings, although the first seems to focus on Greek ornament more than the more highly developed Italian and Beaux-Arts approach; and the second on the aspirations of ornament.

If you have any references that might be helpful (surely this information has been documented somewhere), please leave a comment.

Thank you!

Someone sent me an email

Someone sent me an email with about five or six reading recommendations who has studied ornament to a fair degree. I accidentally deleted that email and I wonder if that person can contact me again, or just re-send the previous email. I really appreciate everyone's help- the resources look encouraging!
